I have a confession to make. The state of my fridge is often a direct reflection of my calendar.
If I’m home, there are vegetables with good intentions, half a cucumber wrapped in cling film and enough ingredients to convince myself I’ll make a five star dinner.
I’m busy; it’s less home cooking and more an archaeological dig featuring expired cottage cheese and one lonely pickle.

So when I arrived home from a holiday to an almost empty fridge, knowing the next fortnight would consist of work events almost every evening, deadlines, launches and very little time to breathe, let alone cook, it felt like the perfect opportunity to finally give YouFoodz a proper trial.

Instead of spending hundreds on last-minute takeaway or assembling what can only be described as a tragic girl dinner involving stale crackers, cheese and whatever pickled condiment was lurking in the back of the fridge, I opened my fridge to a neatly stacked collection of ready-made meals waiting to rescue me from myself.
And honestly, it was one less thing to think about.
Every lunch was sorted.
Every late night when I walked through the front door, exhausted was sorted.
Three minutes in the microwave and dinner was done before I had enough energy to convince myself to order delivery.
For someone whose job often has me out more nights than I’m actually home, that kind of convenience is worth its weight in gold.

The numbers actually surprised me
I ordered 18 meals.
Originally priced at $206.20, my discounted total came to $147.93, including shipping and service fees.
That works out to roughly $58 to $59 a week across about two and a half weeks, or around $8.22 per meal delivered to my door.
Considering one takeaway lunch in Sydney can easily cost $20 or more before delivery fees, the math started making a lot of sense.
Even better, there was virtually no food waste. Every meal was accounted for because I wasn’t buying ingredients that would inevitably die a slow death in my crisper drawer.

The meals I kept thinking about
There were two clear standouts.
The Smokey BBQ Chicken with Potato Salad became my comfort meal.
The paprika-seasoned chicken stayed tender, the potato salad was creamy without feeling too heavy and the smoky barbecue sauce tied everything together.
It tasted far more like something I’d grab from a quality restaurant than something I’d microwaved between Zoom meetings.
Then there was the Mushroom & Cheese Tortellini with Creamy Sauce, which was Italian takeout level good.
Rich without becoming overwhelming, the creamy mushroom sauce had enough parmesan, thyme and a hint of lemon to stop it feeling one-dimensional.
It also packed an impressive amount of protein for a vegetarian meal, which isn’t always easy to find.
Easy to track protein
Speaking of protein, one thing I truly appreciated across the range was how easy everything was to track.
I’ve spent most of my adult life trying to eat more protein, and usually that involves reading tiny nutrition panels or opening a calculator.
Here, it was all front and centre.
Meals in the Protein Plus range contain more than 30 grams of protein, and having those numbers clearly displayed made it incredibly easy to choose meals that aligned with what I was trying to achieve.
It sounds like a small thing, but when you’re rushing between meetings or social gatherings, convenience extends beyond just heating your lunch.

My only criticism
If I could go back and order again, I’d customise my box much more carefully.
The pre-selected menu included far more pasta than I would normally eat.
That’s completely on me because I didn’t spend enough time tweaking my order before checkout.
By week two, I found myself desperately craving crunchy salads, broccoli and vegetables that weren’t swimming in creamy sauce.
I actually ended up making side salads and steaming vegetables to have alongside some meals simply because I missed fresh greens.
Ironically, that stretched my order even further, turning what was supposed to last around two and a half weeks into almost three.
My advice?
Take five extra minutes before checking out and personalise your meals properly. Mix in plenty of vegetable-based options alongside your comfort food favourites. Your future self will thank you.
Delivery couldn’t have been easier
Delivery was refreshingly simple.
I selected the day and delivery window that suited me, and everything arrived straight to my front door, ready to fill the fridge.
The meals are fresh rather than frozen, made using Australian ingredients and developed by restaurant-trained chefs alongside nutritionists, which explains why they taste considerably better than many ready-made meals I’ve tried previously.

Would I buy YouFoodz again?
Absolutely.
Not because every meal tasted like something from a fine dining restaurant, but because YouFoodz solved a problem I regularly have.
It saved me time.
It saved me money.
It stopped me from ordering expensive takeaway or eating pickles and crackers for dinner simply because I was tired.
It helped me stay on top of my protein intake without thinking about it.
Most importantly, it removed one daily decision from an already overflowing mental to-do list.
At this stage of life, I’m all for making things easier. Working smarter instead of harder isn’t laziness; it’s survival.
Until I become a billionaire with a live-in private chef, opening the fridge to find healthy meals ready in three minutes feels like the next best thing.
I’d happily order again, although next time I’ll make sure there’s a lot more broccoli involved.
